A retailer has partnered with a footwear brand to open a pilot concept “shop” in one of its stores.

Grand Rapids-based Meijer said yesterday that it will soon be opening an 804-square-foot SKECHERS shop inside its Knapp’s Corner store in Grand Rapids, at 1997 E. Beltline Ave. NE.

A grand opening for the spring launch of the concept shop will be held on March 21 at 4 p.m.

The shop

The concept shop will be one of the largest shops of its kind within a national retailer and feature about 200 shoe styles for men, women and children.

The shop will also feature four video screens presenting product information and lifestyle news, which includes SKECHERS endorsements by celebrities.

The shop is considered a pilot project that may be incorporated into store remodels and new stores.

The shop “gives families a convenient place to shop for shoes together,” said Peter Whitsett, EVP of merchandising and marketing, Meijer.

Partners

Whitsett said Meijer is one of the largest retailers of SKECHERS across the Midwest.

Meijer has sold the SKECHERS brand for more than a decade.

“SKECHERS remains a very popular national shoe brand for our customers,” said Glen Reinart, Meijer’s divisional merchandise manager of shoes, jewelry and accessories. “Their designs and technology are kept fresh and appeal to all ages.”

Rick Graham, SKECHERS SVP of domestic sales, said Meijer has been “a strong” partner for many years, and the company is “thrilled to expand our retail presence in their stores with this new shop-in-shop concept.”
