A local retailer is one of the best in the world when it comes to selling a certain beef brand.

Walker-based Meijer won the worldwide Retail Value-Added Products Marketer of the Year award at the Certified Angus Beef Annual Conference this week.

The award is for the retailer’s use of the Certified Angus Beef brand in store signage, advertising and social media.

Meijer also won the Top Sales Volume Large-Chain Retailer award, as well as the award for the Top Retail Average Volume Per Store, With More Than 10 Stores.

The conference recognizes several types of “beef leaders" for their "dedication to excellence”: retailers, packers, processors and distributors.

“We are proud to partner with these companies and congratulate their ongoing successes,” said John Stika, president, Certified Angus Beef.

Detroit-based Wolverine Packing Company won the Top Sales Volume Ground Beef Processor award.

Certified Angus Beef

Founded in 1978, Certified Angus Beef is the only brand of beef owned by family farmers and ranchers from the American Angus Association.

The association said one in four Angus cattle meet the 10 quality standards of the brand.
