A retreat center in the region for a variety of organizations has finished a $3.2-million renovation and addition.
GENEVA Camp & Retreat Center in Holland said this month that it has completed work on its Retreat Center, at 3995 N. Lakeshore Dr.
Construction on the project began last September.
The renovated and expanded center, first built in 1985, overlooks 1,200 feet of Lake Michigan and features 25 hotel-style guest rooms, a new elevator, five meeting rooms, barrier-free accessibility and new offices for staff.
Funding was provided by donors.
GENEVA regularly serves 13,000 guests a year, such as churches, schools, businesses, nonprofits, sports teams, women's groups and men's groups. It will now be able to accommodate more people and larger groups.
The organization also runs a Christian summer youth camp.
“The newly remodeled and expanded Retreat Center is a game changer for the ministry of GENEVA,” said Kevin VanderKlok, executive director, GENEVA Camp & Retreat Center. “The facility enables us to serve more guests, provides greater accessibility for those with special needs and enables us to greater live into our mission of creating an environment where the presence of God is experienced, the love of Christ is demonstrated and a spirit-filled life is inspired.”
The renovation and expansion of the retreat center was part of the GENEVA 365 campaign.
It is the second and final phase of the campaign. The first phase was a $500,000 renovation of the 1950s chapel, completed in spring 2014.
