A roofing company was looking for a branch manager for its new office.
Spring Lake-based West Michigan Roofing & Construction needed someone to take charge of its Kalamazoo office, which opened last winter. The company also operates an office in Comstock Park.
The company received a referral for Bob Ackerman, who had been the president of Ackerman Home Improvement and a handyman for U.S. Handyworks, after serving as a combat engineer in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He also has six years of experience working as an insurance claims specialist.
"We found Bob via a referral from a wholesale company in Kalamazoo,” said Michael Megna, owner, West Michigan Roofing & Construction. “They mentioned he was between careers at the moment and working as a builder under his own license.
The company said last month that it decided Ackerman was the right man for the job.
He now manages the branch’s in-home sales consulting, projects and crews and commercial and industrial projects.
"We thought it would be best to have a physical location out there after conducting so many projects in the area,” Megna said. “And Bob lives in the Kalamazoo area and is well-suited to handle all aspects of branch responsibilities."
Ackerman holds an associate’s degree in applied sciences and technology from Kalamazoo Valley Community College and a wielding certificate from Henry Ford Community College.
