A senior living community in the region is planning an expansion.

Holland-based Resthaven publicly announced yesterday a $5-million fundraising campaign to finance an expansion of its residential services and benevolent care assistance.

The Christian nonprofit has raised $3.25 million of the goal, according to Resthaven President and CEO Charlie Vander Broek.

“Our next step is to reach out to those who haven’t yet participated in supporting our goal,” Vander Broek said.

The expansion would include the construction of two, 12-unit assisted living cottages at the organization’s Maple Woods site, at 49 E. 32nd St. The project would also include a 10-unit Green House Cottage and private rooms at the Resthaven Care Center, at 280 W. 40th St.

Holland residents Bill Ryckbost and Diana Ryckbost and Andy Mulder and Lois Mulder launched the fundraising campaign to help provide the “highest-quality” senior facilities in Holland.

“The most exciting part of these wonderful gifts is that it demonstrates that important community stakeholders have confidence in the direction of Resthaven and the services it provides to our community,” said Bill Ryckbost, co-char of the campaign.

“We are now focusing our attention on completing the fundraising effort and ensuring that anyone in our community that wants to live with dignity in their senior years has a place to go.”
