With the American Homebrewers Association’s national convention coming to town, Siciliano’s Market has announced it will host an AHA Big Brew event on May 4 at downtown Grand Rapids' Calder Plaza.

The annual event allows homebrewers to gather at registered sites to brew and help promote the art of homebrewing — and commemorates National Homebrew Day, which is officially May 7.

Owner Steve Siciliano announced the event will be held at Calder Plaza on the store’s blog Thursday.

“With the AHA convention coming to Grand Rapids in 2014, we feel that a huge Big Brew day event at a highly visible, downtown location will be a great way of showing the area, the state and the country that a vibrant homebrewing community exists in West Michigan,” Siciliano writes.

It is the market’s first time participating in the event.

Siciliano’s will donate the ingredients for 48 all-grain batches of Beer City IPA, bottled water for brewing, a chilling station and handcarts.

Brewers will be responsible for their brewing equipment.

The store will post more information on Big Brew in the coming weeks.
