A notable business author will speak in Grand Rapids next week.

Bo Burlingham will speak in Grand Rapids on Nov. 6 about how local businesses and people can create positive social and environmental impacts in their communities.

The author of “Small Giants: Companies That Choose to be Great Instead of Big,” which won Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss’ Book of the Year honor, is also a Forbes contributor and the former editor of Inc. magazine.

Burlingham is being hosted by Local First and several partners — the Economic Club of Grand Rapids, Celebration! Cinema and Mercantile Bank — and he will speak at two events.

The first event is at an Economic Club of Grand Rapids meeting from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the JW Marriott International Ballroom downtown, at 235 Louis St. NW. People can register online for $35.

The second event The Art of Celebrated Service from 3-5 p.m. at Celebration! Cinema North in Grand Rapids, at 2121 Celebration Dr. NE. The cost is $20 for Local First members and $30 for non-members. People can register online.

“Bringing Bo Burlingham to Grand Rapids is a wonderful opportunity for business owners and community members to hear his message about why it’s important to use business to strengthen communities,” said Elissa Hillary, president, Local First.

“West Michigan is home to so many amazing companies that are small giants, and Bo’s book has sparked a community dialogue over the last year about using business as a force for good. We’re excited to hear his story and learn ways we can continue to support the small giants in our community.”
