SpartanNash has named a new executive vice president of merchandising and marketing with more than 35 years of experience in the industry.
SpartanNash in Grand Rapids said yesterday that Larry Pierce, who has been in the role on an interim basis since last summer, has been assigned to the position.
Pierce has had a long career in the food and beverage industry, where he’s gained experience in both retail and wholesale distribution.
“His experience in merchandising, marketing and procurement positions him to deliver the right products at the right prices to our valued customers and consumers,” said Dennis Eidson, president and CEO, SpartanNash. “We appreciate Larry’s efforts over the past year leading the merchandising and marketing team through merger and integration activities while he served as our interim EVP.”
Pierce first joined SpartanNash in 2008 as vice president of center store merchandising.
Previously, he was at Coca-Cola Enterprises, where he served in a variety of positions, including vice president of sales for the supermarket, mass and convenience channels.
During his time at Coca-Cola Enterprises, he led the sales team in strategy development, planning and operational execution. He also worked with customers such as Giant Eagle, Hy-Vee, Kroger, Marsh and Spartan Stores.
Pierce holds a bachelor’s degree in food systems economics and management from Michigan State University, as well as a law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law.
