Spectrum Health is heightening efforts to ensure quality and safety for patients by naming Dr. Matthew J. Schreiber vice president of hospital quality and system patient safety.

Spectrum said his role is a new “key leadership” position created to help oversee quality efforts throughout the system.

System-wide role

"In order to serve our patients, the previous roles of director of quality for Spectrum Health Medical Group and the vice president of quality for Spectrum Health Hospital Group have been elevated to have system-wide responsibility," said Dr. J. Michael Kramer, senior vice president and chief quality officer.

Spectrum Health is “making a major investment in people, resources and planning, so that we continue to provide quality-focused care in all of our hospitals and offices," said Dr. James M. Tucci, chief clinical systems integration and improvement officer, Spectrum Health System.

Kramer said Schreiber is “a nationally recognized physician leader who has successfully enhanced quality efforts in other health care systems."

Schreiber will be responsible for quality in all of Spectrum Health's hospitals and safety throughout the system, including the ambulatory practices.
