A local distillery is showcasing Grand Rapids’ collaborative spirit with a beer-themed release.
Long Road Distillers and Brewery Vivant in Grand Rapids are partnering to release Vivant Big Red Coq Malt Whisky. The whiskey is distilled from the same mash as Brewery Vivant’s Big Red Coq Red IPA.
“We’re excited for people to try out this latest collaborative release," said Kyle Van Strien, co-owner and co-founder of Long Road Distillers. “Brewery Vivant has always been one of our favorite local brewers and they create some of the most unique and enjoyable beers around. We think this beer-turned-whiskey is the perfect representation of their craftsmanship in spirit form.”
This is the fifth release of the Long Road Beer City Whisky Series, a line-up of whiskies collaboratively made with local breweries that have helped earn Grand Rapids the title of “Beer City USA.” Long Road Distillers has partnered with four other Grand Rapids breweries for the Beer City Whisky Series: The Mitten Brewing Company, Perrin Brewing Company, Harmony Brewing Company/Harmony Hall and Greyline Brewing Company.
Each whiskey is released in-house at Long Road’s Grand Rapids tasting room, 537 Leonard St. NW, in small batches ranging from 100 to 200 bottles.
Vivant Big Red Coq Malt Whisky will available for tastes, cocktails and bottles to take home at 4 p.m. on Sept. 26 at Long Road’s tasting room. Long Road and Brewery Vivant also will feature unique food pairings for Big Red Coq.
A sixth release in the series is coming in late October, made in partnership with Creston Brewing Company.
