A Grand Rapids distillery has won a platinum award at an international competition.

Long Road Distillers won the medal and a Consumer’s Choice Award for its aquavit at the SIP Awards this spring in Newport Beach, California.

More than 700 spirits were tasted at the “world’s largest consumer tasting event,” and a panel of 118 judges evaluated each spirit.

Platinum is the highest honor, followed by gold, silver and bronze medals. Medals were awarded in 59 categories.

Long Roa Distillers was founded in 2015, and the distillery’s aquavit has won multiple best-of-show and best-of-category awards at a variety of international competitions: the American Craft Spirits Association Awards; American Distilling Institute’s Annual Judging of Craft Spirits; and similar competitions in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Denver and San Diego.
