A sports bar chain that’s been described as a Scottish-themed version of Hooters is planning to enter the West Michigan market.

Tempe, Ariz.-based Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery said this week that it plans to open 20 pubs in the Midwest by the end of 2017 under Tilted Management, led by Paul DiBenedetto, an area developer and multi-unit franchisee.

At least one of those pubs is scheduled to open in Grand Rapids in the fourth quarter of this year.

The lease for the Grand Rapids location is currently being finalized, and no contractor has been selected for the work, DiBenedetto said.

More than 100 employees will be needed at the Grand Rapids pub.

The space

DiBenedetto said the Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery Grand Rapids will be about 8,000 square feet and feature about 45 TVs.

The chain said its locations feature Celtic décor, pool tables, dart boards and are staffed by “sexy servers” or "Tilt Girls."

The menu will feature several pub-style items: appetizers, wings, sandwiches, entrees, Big Arse Burger, Gaelic Chicken and more.

The location will also feature full bar with more than 35 draft beers, with a “heavy focus on craft,” and more than 100 brands of liquor, DiBenedetto said.

The market

“We have a number of units going into the Detroit suburbs, Grand Rapids is planned for two units, and we are looking for franchisees in the Kalamazoo market,” DiBenedetto said.

The chain is planning to open a location in Canton next month.

“Our development team is primed and poised to grow in the region,” DiBenedetto said. “With open territories across the Midwest from Minnesota to Oklahoma City, we are chomping at the bit to find local community and business leaders to bring this growing entertainment restaurant to their town.”

Mark Hanby, Tilted Kiilt’s VP of franchise development, said that with the Big Ten conference and many pro sports teams throughout the Midwest, there are “a plethora of great sports towns in the region.”

“I am confident in Paul’s ability to grow the Tilted Kilt brand, expanding our footprint throughout key markets in the Midwest,” Hanby said.
