A local staffing firm is producing a workshop to train other companies in best practices for veteran hiring.
Express Employment Professionals of Grand Rapids, or Express Pros, will host Breakfast with Purpose: Engaging the Veteran Workforce this Thursday from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at its office in Wyoming, at 1760 44th St. SW.
Janis Petrini, franchise owner of Express Pros Grand Rapids, said employers that aren’t tapping into the talents found in Michigan’s veteran population are missing out.
“We are excited to host this training and help both veterans and employers be more successful through sharing these best practices with local companies,” Petrini said.
The local Express Pros is a silver-level certified Veteran-Friendly Employer through the Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency, which means it is formally committed to advocating for the veteran workforce and training employers on how to best hire and engage veterans.
Topics covered in the training will include demographics of the veteran workforce, veteran skills and job paths, how to translate veteran experience into the workplace and how to recruit, engage and retain veterans.
Heather Merrick, a U.S. Army veteran and a professional and technical recruiter for Express Pros, will facilitate the training.
