The local office of a national staffing firm is offering a new online training platform to help clients gain in-demand skills.
The Grand Rapids office of Oklahoma City-based Express Employment Professionals, or Express Pros, said last month it has added a free 19-course curriculum for job seekers called ExpressLearn.
John Keuning, director of manufacturing excellence at Express Pros Grand Rapids, said the courses are custom-made for the firm’s clients.
“Each topic includes dozens of different modules and is comparable to a college-level training course,” he said.
Keuning said the content will help Express Pros increase the region’s skilled workforce.
“Every day, we see companies struggling to find the skilled talent they need to fill good-paying jobs," he said. "And at the same time, we see individuals struggling to advance their careers, because they don’t have the skills that are in demand in the market.”
The Grand Rapids office is the only location in Michigan included in the initial rollout.
Other markets piloting the platform include Chester County, Pennsylvania, Rochester, Minnesota and Bend, Oregon.
Scranton, Pennsylvania-based skills development and distance-learning company Penn Foster is the curriculum provider.
“The bulk of the learning is text-based, so participants can easily move through at their own pace, and each module is followed up with a test to ensure the student learned the material,” Keuning said.
ExpressLearn also incorporates video segments to teach visual concepts, such as how to use certain software programs.
