A pair of entrepreneurs are hoping to roll out a new type of toilet paper.

HYGE is a biodegradable and flushable wet wipe designed for traditional toilet paper holders, according to founders Tony Bird and Brent Fisher, who originally met as roommates at Michigan State University. Fisher is based in Grand Rapids and the company’s primary business address is Grand Rapids. Bird is based in the company’s Detroit office.

They say they have secured $1 million in funding contingent on raising $40,000 over the next month as part of a pre-order crowdfunding campaign.

There are two ways to purchase HYGE: a one-time purchase or recurring monthly subscriptions. Initial subscription pricing starts at $10 per month.

The company, which was founded in 2018, designed the exterior package of HYGE to resemble the texture of toilet paper. Lifting up a tab allows a user access to the wet wipes, which are kept moist.

Fisher and Bird expect much of the manufacturing will take place in Michigan. If the fundraising goal is met, they plan to start full-scale production in September.
