The Right Place appoints board members

A local economic development nonprofit has appointed nine new members to its board of directors and re-appointed three officers.

Herman Miller President and CEO Brian Walker will continue as chairman of The Right Place’s board.

PNC Financial Services Regional President Sean Welsh will serve as vice chair, and PricewaterhouseCoopers Grand Rapids Managing Partner Mitch Joppich will be treasurer.

The Grand Rapids-based organization said this week it added board members from across the region, bringing the board's total to 44 members.

Members typically serve three-year terms.

Matt Becker, BDO USA, managing partner

Susan Hatto, Montcalm Community College, dean of community and workforce education (one-year term)

Bill Manns, Mercy Health St. Mary’s, president

Michael McGee, Miller Canfield, CEO

Joel Rahn, Chemical Bank, regional president

Ben Swayze, Cascade Charter Township, manager (one-year term)

Renee Tabben, Merrill Lynch, market executive; Bank of America, market president

Chris WIlliams, Medbio, president and CEO (two-year term)

Outgoing members

Former MSU College of Human Medicine Interim Dean Aron Sousa is among three outgoing board members, which also includes Montcalm Community College VP of Student and Academic Affairs Rob Spohr and Plainfield Charter Township Superintendent and Manager Cameron Van Wyngarden, who completed their one-year terms.

Executive committee

Additionally, Grand Valley State University President Thomas Haas, Lake Michigan Credit Union President and CEO Sandra Jelinski and Amway Corp. Vice Chair Bill Payne were appointed to The Right Place Executive Committee.
