Southwest Michigan’s Thornburg and Company will be one of the vendors housed in Downtown Market's indoor Market Hall when it opens later this summer.
Owned by the husband-and-wife team of Ryan and Julia Thornburg, Thornburg and Company opened in Berrien County in 2011 and creates fruit-belt preserves, syrup, honey and granola — using produce from Southwest Michigan.
The Benton Harbor-based company’s fruit-belt preserves are prepared by hand and cooked slowly in open kettles to achieve their taste and texture.
Thornburg and Company products are available at several retail locations in Michigan and Illinois.
The Thornburgs both have culinary backgrounds and are from Southwest Michigan.
Ryan Thornburg has been executive chef at the Bistro on the Boulevard in St. Joseph for the past three years.
Prior to that, he had worked for seven years as executive chef at Tosi’s Restaurant in Stevensville.
Julia Thornburg earned her bachelor’s degree in hospitality and tourism from Grand Valley State University.
She manages Thornburg and Company's day–to–day operations.
