The $40 million renovation of a downtown Grand Rapids hotel is complete.

The glass tower at the Amway Grand Plaza, at 187 Monroe Ave. NW in Grand Rapids, was renovated to include the replacement of the glass exterior of the building.

“The glass tower at Amway Grand Plaza is an important architectural structure in the Grand Rapids skyline, and we are happy to unveil its new look within the community,” said Rick Winn, president of AHC Hospitality. “Guests will have new views from our rooms with oversized windows fully showcasing the river and city.”

The tower’s floor-to-ceiling windows were replaced with a lighter tint glass for more transparency in the guest rooms and the MDRD restaurant. The glass also is expected to save 10% on energy costs.

The tower also features a metal cladding, updated balcony rooms and a backlit crown logo on Pearl Street.

The renovation project began in 2019. Rockford Construction, in collaboration with AHC, served as the construction manager and administrator of the renovation project. The architectural work was led by Gensler and Progressive AE.
