A local facility has won approval from Volkswagen AG to provide parts testing to its suppliers.

Intertek in Kentwood, which provides total quality assurance services, said last week Volkswagen AG has certified it as an approved global provider for materials testing.

The designation was also granted to Intertek facilities in Geleen, Netherlands and Shanghai.

Volkswagen’s materials testing program establishes a global network of approved labs to verify the quality and safety of parts made by the automaker’s suppliers.

Intertek said it was selected for the program based on its ability to provide comprehensive and reliable testing solutions across Volkswagen’s key sourcing regions in North America, Europe and China.

“We are committed to expanding our capabilities and accreditations to provide the highest level of total quality assurance to our customers,” said Tim Hubbard, SVP of Transportation Technologies, Intertek.

Hubbard said Intertek looks forward to partnering with Volkswagen to bring “our experience and expertise in materials analysis and validation to further assist their suppliers in this market.”

Company-wide, Intertek is accredited to conduct hundreds of electrical, chemical and mechanical tests for automotive components, products and systems.

In December, Intertek received approval from Daimler as a class-A laboratory for its suppliers. Intertek was the first organization in the U.S. to receive the designation.
