A Wayland startup that introduced a snack bar for diabetics and pre-diabetics this fall has received its first orders from retailers and landed a wholesale distributor.

InBalance Health Corp., which markets “doctor-formulated” alternative food bars and supplement solutions, has announced that Palko Distributing Co. Inc. of Michigan City, Ind., is its first wholesale distributor for the company’s INBar, a gluten-free snack bar for people diagnosed as pre-diabetic and those with Type 2 diabetes.

Palko specializes in the natural health foods and additives, serving retail stores in four Midwestern states.

“We’ve had a number of positive conversations with distributors across the country and around the world since launching our line of flavorful glucose- and weight-management bars at the Expo East trade show last month (in Baltimore),” said Bob Serulla, president of InBalance Health. “Palko expressed immediate interest in serving as one of our Midwest distributors. Given their exceptional reputation, we jumped at the opportunity to facilitate our entry into stores in their territories, so that those living with pre-diabetes and Type 2 diabetes will have access to a healthy snack alternative that tastes great.”

The INBar is formulated to provide insulin balance and help people better manage their weight by minimizing blood sugar spikes and controlling hunger with natural foods. It comes in several flavors.

Dr. Don VerHulst is the chief science officer for InBalance Health.

The INBar is made for InBalance by an unnamed contract bakery located in Michigan, according to InBalance.

Retailers that have already contracted to sell INBar are Belmark Inc., Cambridge Naturals, Health Store & More, Healthy Alternatives, Lifestyle Wellness & Spa and Organic Food Depot.
