West Michigan is home to two of the Best Small Cities for Beer Lovers.

The list created by TravelNerd last month focuses on cities with populations of fewer than 400,000 — as big cities such as San Diego, Seattle and Portland, Ore., have been recognized plenty, according to the site.

Grand Rapids appears on the list, along with fellow West Michigan beer haven Kalamazoo.

Other well-recognized craft beer centers such as Bend, Ore., Fort Collins and Boulder, Colo., and Asheville, N.C., make the list, as well as Cleveland, Burlington, Vt., and Anchorage, Alaska.

"Head to the Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo area of Michigan for some Midwestern brews," the site says. "The area boasts over 20 breweries and plenty of beer bars. . . . Try out the craft beer tour to hit up the 20 local breweries and see behind-the-scenes action at Founders Brewing and Brewery Vivant."

"Kalamazoo is home to Bell’s Brewery, Inc., the biggest and oldest craft brewery in Michigan, and plenty of other breweries are following in its footsteps. Many breweries are also opening branches in Kalamazoo," the site says. "Be sure to check out events like beer tastings and festivals for beer enthusiasts held by the Kalamazoo Libation Organization of Brewers."
