A pair of companies in the region have landed on a list of organizations with the most ethical business practices in the world.

The 2018 list of the “World’s Most Ethical Companies” was published last week by the Scottsdale, Arizona-based Ethisphere Institute, an organization dedicated to defining and advancing standards of ethical business practices.

Battle Creek-based Kellogg Company and Benton Harbor-based Whirlpool Corporation are the West Michigan companies on the list and will receive awards as honorees.

Steve Cahillane, CEO of Kellogg Company, said his organization is honored to receive the award.

“We have always focused on doing business the right way, using our K Values and our global code of ethics to guide us with integrity and leadership on our path to success,” Cahillane said.

The list is based on Ethisphere’s ethics quotient, or EQ, framework, which assesses each company’s performance in five key categories: ethics and compliance programs (35 percent); corporate citizenship and responsibility (20 percent); culture of ethics (20 percent); governance (15 percent); and leadership, innovation and reputation (10 percent).

The annual recognition program was created in 2007 to honor companies that recognize their role in influencing and driving positive change in the business community and societies around the world, while working to maximize their impact where possible.

In 2018, Ethisphere selected 135 companies from 23 countries and 57 industries for the honor.
