Thirteen small businesses in West Michigan are among the state’s 50 Companies to Watch.

Michigan Celebrates Small Business — an awards program created by several state agencies to support and celebrate entrepreneurs in Michigan — has named its 2014 Michigan 50 Companies to Watch.

The 10th-annual program honors second-stage companies based in Michigan and will feature an awards event on May 6 at the Breslin Center at Michigan State University.

The companies must qualify as a second-stage company: be an established and growing firm; privately owned; have between six and 99 employees; and report annual revenue between $750,000 and $50 million.

A panel of judges selected the 50 Companies to Watch based on their high growth in revenue and employment rates and “special" strengths which make them stand out in the marketplace.

Michigan Celebrates Small Business was created in 2004 to create an entrepreneurial culture, build a statewide network and emphasize small businesses in the state.

The program is comprised of executives from its managing partner, the Michigan Small Business Development Center, and the Michigan Economic Development Corp., U.S. Small Business Administration of Michigan, Edward Lowe Foundation, Small Business Association of Michigan and Chris Holman, a small business advocate.
