The Women’s Resource Center has honored a group of organizations that implement practices to empower women in the workplace.

The Grand Rapids nonprofit produced the 26th annual Pillar Awards yesterday at Amway Grand Plaza.

More than 500 people attended the awards luncheon, which honored several Pillar Award winners: Baker Holtz, D.A. Blodgett – St. John’s, Equity Transportation and Heart of West Michigan United Way as a diversity honoree.

The event is “an opportunity to honor local businesses that exemplify our mission,” said Sharon Caldwell-Newton, executive director, Women’s Resource Center.

The center

The Women’s Resource Center has helped almost 40,000 women in West Michigan since 1973.

The center “walks alongside women in transition, encouraging them to believe in themselves and teaching them the skills they need to succeed with their career goals,” according to its Facebook page.
