In recognition of Veterans Day next week, a local workforce development agency will host a series of free and discounted events for veterans.
West Michigan Works! said it will honor those who served in the military via a special Veterans Week Nov. 13-16 at its eight service centers: Allegan, Grand Rapids-Franklin, Grand Rapids-West Side, Greenville, Hastings, Holland, Ionia and Muskegon.
“We serve veterans every day, but we want to set aside this special time around Veterans Day to honor the men and women who served our country and support their specific career needs,” said Brittany Lenertz, talent solutions director, West Michigan Works!.
The events are being held in partnership with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Kent County Housing Commission, state veteran representatives, local nonprofits and several veteran-friendly employers.
West Michigan Works! will lead free workshops on interview techniques, soft-skill development and resume writing to help veterans “convey their military experience using civilian language” that speaks to hiring managers.
Several service centers will host resource fairs that will highlight community resources for veterans.
Veteran-friendly employers will be present at service centers as either an Employer of the Day or part of a larger multi-employer hiring event.
Veterans and their spouses will receive early access to the events, but all job seekers are welcome to attend.
A schedule of events and their locations is online.
