In December, Gov. Rick Snyder signed bipartisan legislation that will increase Michigan’s use of clean, renewable energy and save Michigan families and businesses money on their electricity bills. On behalf of Brewery Vivant, I thank representatives Chris Afendoulis, Winnie Brinks and David LaGrand for voting “yes” on this important legislation.
In recent years, the city of Grand Rapids has emerged as a leader in clean energy, currently receiving more than 20 percent of its energy from renewable sources. This achievement is part of a broader goal Grand Rapids set in 2010 to obtain 100 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020. Our city was the first to set a goal of this kind in Michigan.
At Brewery Vivant, we strive to run our business as sustainably as possible, which is why we have made significant investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency. The recently passed energy laws were enacted with that same mindset and will increase the amount of clean, renewable energy utility companies generate statewide.
The energy package will also save families and small businesses money by extending Michigan’s highly successful energy efficiency standard, which has saved ratepayers more than $5 billion since 2009. It will also create new jobs statewide in the rapidly growing clean energy sector.
Thank you, representatives, for supporting historic energy legislation that will save families and businesses money, protect our environment and create new jobs.
