Lighthouse, an Alera Group company, hired Doug Calkins as a client executive in Grand Rapids.

Calkins has over 20 years of employee benefits experience. In this role, he will take executive responsibility for key employee benefits accounts at Lighthouse, overseeing the strategic direction and performance of its benefits programs.

“Doug’s industry tenure has already proven to be a game-changer for our clients,” said Jaclyn Brussee, vice president of sales at Lighthouse, “He will play an integral part in ensuring we continue to provide advanced health care strategies in Michigan and beyond.”

Lighthouse’s local leadership and best practices in property and casualty insurance, employee benefits and retirement support is backed by Alera Group’s national pool of resources, which includes 3,000 employees in 120 locations across the country.

“The employee benefits environment has evolved dramatically, creating complex challenges to employers and employees alike,” Calkins said. “I think it’s important to ensure that employers and employees adopt strategies that fit their ability to handle financial risk, investigate effective ways to keep programs affordable and remain nimble enough to respond to market and legislative changes. I have a passion for the numbers and look forward to sharing that passion with the Lighthouse clientele.”

Lighthouse serves clients in more than 20 verticals, including specialties in construction, manufacturing and retail. Under Alera’s national model of collaboration and expansive network of resources, Lighthouse delivers insurance solutions that meet the needs of clients throughout the country.
