Christina Sanders – JC Home Care – JC Assisted Living

From surviving on hardly a dime to running several thriving businesses in just two years isn’t how most stories of homelessness unfold. But, that’s the turn of circumstances Christina Sanders has orchestrated, and it’s been—at times— difficult to comprehend. It was August of 2019 when she found herself without a job, without a house, and with all five of her children still in her care. At the time, she also didn’t have a phone or an address, making options for finding work limited—and lifting herself and her family from their dire situation challenging. Feeling at her lowest and determined not to ever find herself there again, Christina, along with her kids, started brainstorming opportunities. By this time, the pandemic had hit hard, further hampering any progress she might have made.

Christina, who has a background in nursing and connections in the field, knew that hospitals were in crisis and at capacity, unable to care for all of their patients. She spent all of her time researching and working around the clock to conceive what is now JC Home Care. She knew she had the skills and training to provide support, especially for those who were COVID positive. With pen and paper in hand she began contacting hospitals, and, after much perseverance, they sent her their first patient—and, after that, she got busy fast.

“This was exactly what I was looking for, because caring for people is my passion,” Christina says. “I don’t ever feel like I’m working. I feel like I’m helping; doing good. That’s incredibly rewarding.”

Fast forward to today, and JC Home Care, as well as her newly established JC Assisted Living, are the premier providers in the area. As needs in the community shifted away from COVID care, Christina began providing elder care; in some cases, serving the same patients she had seen during the pandemic who now needed aging- related support. JC Home Care and JC Assisted Living provide comfort-only care, as well as CNA-level support for patients with greater needs. They also have specially trained, certified dementia care staff. Christina works 24/7 to keep her businesses humming, and the results of those efforts are clear in the success she’s achieved.

“I do everything I can for them: I inspire them, I show them appreciation, and I send positive messages out to them every day,” Christina says. “I would not be where I am without my staff. They are absolutely amazing. All of them are excellent. Together, we are changing the face of home care.”
