If you’re a business in the greater Grand Rapids area, whether you have 20 employees or 1,000-plus, you’ve probably heard of Paycor. Providing HCM (Human Capital Management) solutions for companies of all sizes in a range of industries, they offer software for HR, payroll, and benefits administration, plus tools for talent retention, time and attendance, and employee satisfaction.
They serve more than 3,000 clients in West Michigan and bring in more by the day. Companies experiencing growth rely on Paycor to assist with recruiting, hiring, and onboarding talent, as well as retention and career advancement for existing employees. Paycor also handles more complex issues that businesses may not have the resources for, such as compliance and labor laws, regulations, and tax filing.
While their solutions can be life changing for leaders and HR professionals, but what’s truly remarkable is the sales team behind them. Overseeing a group of eight in the region, three of whom are women, is Hailey Van Andel, Senior Regional Sales Director. She’s been with Paycor for eight years, and has worked her way from the bottom up. In the last three years in her current leadership role, she has focused on developing all of her sellers, both personally and professionally, and has served as a coach and a mentor to them as well. As a full-time working mom, she’s also a role model to her two sons and those on her team striving for a similar balance.
“I have a lot of flexibility and I’m very relatable to the women on my team,” Van Andel says. “They see it’s possible to be a working mom and to have the support to enjoy a career and have a family.”
Van Andel understands how important it is to promote a positive work culture for her team, and makes sure they receive regular recognition for their contributions. She also believes in giving back, and, in addition to Paycor’s quarterly pay-it-forward events that have included Helen Devos Children’s Hospital, Senior Meals on Wheels, John Ball Zoo, homeless shelters, and Habitat for Humanity, she’s also a board member for IKUS Life Enrichment Services and the Grand Rapids Downtown Market.
The other Women Who Move on Van Andel’s team are Sarah Hesse, Erica Slocumb, and Randi Alberich.
Hesse joined Paycor in 2016 as a Major Market Sales Executive, and in 2020 she was promoted to Senior Major Market Sales Executive. Originally from Metro Detroit, she moved to West Michigan after graduating from Western Michigan University in 2006. A working mother of two daughters, she lives an active lifestyle and spends her free time on self-development and as a mental health advocate for Muskegon County youth. She also volunteers at Habitat for Humanity, Kids’ Food Basket, and as a coach for youth sports programs and Girls on the Run.
Erica Slocumb, Major Market Sales Executive, prides herself on leading by example and showing other women how to choose a path by promoting women in a variety of networking groups, participating in job fairs, and supporting local women-owned and -operated businesses. She is enthusiastic about giving back and connecting with people, and volunteers with several organizations, including Boys and Girls Club, Goodwill, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Slocumb believes everyone is in control of their own destiny. “I challenge people to pulse check themselves to see if they are folding under pressure or pushing themselves to move the needle and live their happiest lives,” she says. “Find your passion, follow your passion, be your passion.”
Randi Alberich, Major Market Sales Executive, loves all aspects of networking and making connections. She recently joined Paycor’s ERG Women’s Inspirational Network to improve her skillset as a woman in sales, a mother who works, and a resource to others in the community.
Alberich is passionate about her career, education, giving back, and investing in children—and, professionally, she is a strong supporter of employee engagement and positive culture. She’s active in the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce and the local SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) chapter. Alberich takes pride in her community involvement and is intentional in where she spends her time.
As the leader of these extraordinary women, Hailey Van Andel is excited and thankful to work for a company that is so strongly supportive. “It’s not very common to have this many successful women on a sales team,” she says. “Paycor focuses very heavily on promoting women in leadership and that’s very special to me.”
