Allen Earns Reflection Award

    GRAND RAPIDS — Aquinas College will honor Martin Allen Jr., chairman of the Gerald R. Ford Foundation, next week with the Aquinas Reflection Award for exemplifying the ideals and values of the college.

    Allen’s long line of work and service began in 1966 when he joined Old Kent Bank and Trust Co., eventually becoming senior vice president-director of planning and development and secretary of the corporation.

    During his 31 years at the bank and its holding company, Allen became integrally involved in its efforts to nurture the development of the Grand Rapids community and West Michigan region.

    Allen is currently chairman of the board of trustees of the Gerald R. Ford Foundation and a member of the Advisory Committee of the National Archives on Presidential Libraries. He has given and continues to give to the benefit of many Grand Rapids projects including the Grand Action Committee, DeVos Place Convention Center Building Committee and the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame. 

    Aquinas is honoring Allen for living a life of dedication to his family and the betterment of his many communities and said it is grateful to Allen for the time, talent and caring he has given to so many over the years.
