GREENVILLE — United Memorial Health System has named Paul Bonis as its new chief executive officer, effective Oct. 6.

In his role as United’s CEO, Bonis will be responsible for all aspects of the system’s operations, strategic planning and executive leadership.

“Paul has a strong record of accomplishment in health care management,” said Franz Mogdis, UMHS board chair. “We feel his broad range of leadership experience will serve him well as he meets the challenges of running a rural health organization that is part of a larger health system.”

Bonis is charged with creating and executing the organizational goals and objectives in accordance with UMHS’ mission of providing cost-effective, quality health care.

“I am excited about leading an organization that has so much potential for growth,” said Bonis. “I especially look forward to working with members of the United Memorial Health System organization as together we fulfill the vision of becoming a state-of-the-art health care system.”

Bonis comes to UMHS from St. John’s Medical Center, a $50-million medical center and nursing home in Jackson, Wyo., where he served as associate administrator. In that position, Bonis oversaw all operations and human resource activities, as well as quality and customer satisfaction.

Previously, Bonis served as the director of operations at Clinipad Corp., in Norwich, Conn., where he was responsible for multiple locations of a $65-million medical manufacturing corporation.

Prior to that he was employee relations manager at Heublein Inc., where he was responsible for all human resources functions and organizational development for three operating locations of the multinational corporation.

Mogdis said the board is grateful to William Gonzalez for his work as interim CEO.

“Bill helped implement a number of important initiatives,” said Mogdis. “The board wishes him well and thanks him for all his efforts.”
