WYOMING — One of the region’s most respected construction companies created a new division a few weeks ago, as D&D Building started D&D Building Service Solutions earlier this month.
The Wyoming firm, which deals in both new construction and renovation work, set up the separate business to provide one-stop maintenance and repair services for owners and managers of commercial buildings.
“We’ve always offered service work, but not as a separate entity,” said Cristine Rodriquez, manager of Service Solutions. “We’re dedicating guys solely to the service department.”
Rodriquez said Service Solutions will take on just about any kind of architectural problem a building may have, along with mechanical repairs to HVAC units, electrical fixtures and plumbing fixtures. She added that D&D was in the process of contracting with area electrical and plumbing companies to help with the workload.
“We would rather have the customer just have one call in to us, and then we will handle it from there,” said Rodriquez, whose goal is to make the business very attentive to the customer. “Then they get just one bill instead of three different bills.”
Service Solutions also does carpentry work, such as expanding doorways and building cabinets. Things like cabinets, doors, closets and shelves can be custom designed by D&D in its mill shop and then built and installed to those design specifications.
“It’s very diversified. We can do quite a bit with anything, even concrete work. It’s very nice because we have the building side of our company and if we ever need heavy equipment we’ve got that at our disposal,” she said. “We do a little bit of everything.”
D&D Building has been around for more than 30 years. Located at 3264 Union Ave. SE in Wyoming, the company does commercial, industrial and institutional construction. It also repairs and maintains grocery, deli and bakery equipment, does custom millwork and designs building projects. D&D recently renovated the Fanatorium for Catholic Social Services.
Service Solutions seems to be aptly named, as establishing the new business also turned out to be a good solution for D&D.
“We decided to create it due to the demand. We would constantly be pulling guys from our construction sites to go out and do a two-day job somewhere, such as fixing some tile or a door,” said Rodriquez.
Before Service Solutions, some of those D&D customers had to wait until workers could be freed from work sites. Now, there aren’t any long waits for service with the new division.
“We have regular customers now that we just do weekly service for. We thought it would be great to open up just the service side, dedicate four to eight guys to it, and get them to be experts at quick-fix type jobs,” said Rodriquez. “In the past, we might have told a customer that we could get out there in two weeks. Now, we can get out there that day or in a couple days.”
