GRAND RAPIDS — A fire this morning that completely destroyed one warehouse of a local lumber company represents only a temporary setback, according to the firm’s president.
Multiple fire departments this morning battled a warehouse blaze at VKW Hardwoods Inc., 395 54th St. SW. The structure, three processing machines and approximately 200,000bf of lumber were lost in the blaze, which could be seen for miles during morning rush hour.
John Bouwer, president and CEO of VKW, said this morning that the company plans to resume full operations on Thursday.
“VKW Hardwoods will receive green lumber beginning Wednesday, May 26,” he said. “Production will begin a double shift to make up for lost production time and ensure on-time delivery to our customers.”
