On Thursday, Feb. 6, more than 800 business leaders, political officials and special guests will gather for the governor-elect’s speech. It is the first time in the chamber’s 115-year history that a sitting governor has addressed the chamber’s membership.
“The annual meeting is a great opportunity to hear plans for her administration and for the chamber to tell its story,” said Cindy Havard, chairperson-elect for the chamber board of directors and vice president of Cole’s Quality Foods Inc. “This is definitely the beginning of a productive collaboration with the governor-elect that will benefit our membership and the region.”
The meeting will be held in the Grand Hall of the Grand Center, with the doors opening at 11:15 a.m. followed by the program at noon.
“Gov.-elect Granholm’s acceptance of our invitation so early in her administration is a real success for the chamber membership,” said Brian Harris, chairperson of the chamber board of directors and president/CEO of H&H Metal Source International.
“The opportunity to continue our dialogue as she begins her administration is exciting and beneficial.”
The theme for the annual meeting, which recognizes the chamber’s and West Michigan’s increased visibility statewide, is “One Michigan: The Journey Begins.”
“The chamber has worked collaboratively both regionally and statewide to ensure that West Michigan is viewed as a full partner in the growth and progress of the state of Michigan,” said John Brown, president of the chamber.
“The annual meeting will underscore those collaborative efforts and West Michigan’s prominent role in the state’s success.”
Tickets for the annual meeting are $40 per person. Corporate sponsorships are still available. More information is available by calling the chamber at 771-0300. To make reservations, contact the chamber event hotline at 771-0303 or visit the chamber’s Web site at www.grandrapids.org
