GRAND RAPIDS — The Van Andel Institute has appointed Steve Heacock, chairman of the Kent County Convention and Arena Authority, as its chief administrative officer and general counsel effective today.
Heacock will have executive oversight of human resources at the VAI and also will serve as the institute’s chief legal counsel.
Additionally, Heacock will work with a group of key stakeholders responsible for exploring the proposed development of a medical school in West Michigan and assist in the planning process.
Heacock has served as CFO, chief legal and administrative officer, corporate secretary and treasurer of Ideasphere Inc. since its formation in 2002. Ideasphere is a development stage company founded by David Van Andel.
Heacock joined Priority Health Managed Benefits as vice president of development, general counsel and corporate secretary in 1997. Before joining Priority Health, he was a partner with Warner Norcross & Judd and worked as a senior tax accountant at Price Waterhouse. He also served as chair and commissioner on the Kent County Board of Commissioners from 1997 to 2002.
