GRAND RAPIDS — The parking garage Alticor Inc. has designed for its new hotel will have 751 spaces and rise 100 feet at its highest peak.
The new garage will be built on the surface parking lot in front of the Riverfront Plaza Building at 55 Campau Ave. NW, just south of the new hotel. The ramp will have 10 levels, with nine above ground. About 140 of the spaces will be reserved for Riverfront Plaza tenants, who also will have a private entry to the garage.
The ramp will feature a brick and limestone pre-cast façade that has been designed to match the exterior of the Riverfront Plaza Building, and multiple entry points. A skywalk from the garage will connect with the hotel.
Construction is expected to get started in November and be finished by January 2007. Riverfront Plaza tenants, however, are expected to have access to the garage in October 2006.
The cost to build the garage hasn’t been determined yet. Reportedly, the project is over budget and design changes may have to be made.
Alticor has a date with the Planning Commission later this month to present the site plan for the ramp. The company also will go before the City Commission soon to gain approval for the 340-room hotel planned for Campau and Pearl Street.
