Interphase Wins School Contract


    GRAND RAPIDS — Interphase Office Interiors Inc., West Michigan’s exclusive Haworth dealer, has won the contract for the installation of all workstations, seating and student tables for the new West Ottawa High School building.

    The school has registered the building with the U.S. Green Building Council for its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, and Interphase was well suited to help meet those needs.

    Its line of Haworth products are designed with sustainability in mind, and Interphase owner Randy DeBoer is the only LEED accredited West Michigan furniture dealer.

    LEED is the standard for North American green buildings, a design model that protects the environment, promotes good health of occupants and costs less to operate. Michigan’s public schools have embraced the green building of late; K-12 public education is the largest single use of LEED-certified buildings in the state.

    “Throughout the design process, the district strived to create an optimal learning setting in an environmentally friendly manner,” said DeBoer. “As the only Michigan furniture dealer led by a LEED Accredited Professional, Interphase shares the progressive goals of WestOttawaHigh School and is honored to be selected to participate in such a high-performance project.”

    Design features within the building focus on improving the comfort and reducing distractions for occupants.

    “The school we’re creating will provide a better environment for teachers to teach and for students to learn,” said West Ottawa Assistant Superintendent Dave Zimmer. “That’s what’s making this process very exciting.”

    Installation for the 310,000-square-foot structure will begin this month. The new school, located off

    in Holland, is slated to open in August.
