Jaycees Millennium Party Is Friday

    GRAND RAPIDS — The Grand Rapids Jaycees will host a daylong grand opening celebration for the new Millennium Park on Friday.

    Festivities kick off at 10 a.m. with a host of activities for area families. A dedication ceremony for the first phase of construction will be held at 11 a.m. The day will wrap up with a Beach Blanket Blues sunset concert picnic.

    The first phase of Millennium Park includes 200 acres of land and 100 acres of open water. The park offers sandy beaches, a bathhouse, two playgrounds, 20 grilling areas and over 200 picnic tables. The entrance is located on Maynard Avenue between Butterworth Drive and Veterans Memorial Drive.

    When completed Millennium Park will stretch over 1,500 acres and will become one of the nation’s largest public parks.

    The GR Jaycees regularly organize a number of events in the community. Included in those are the Farmers Charity Classic, the Santa Claus Parade, and the Michigan Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament.
