Kent May Buy Parkland

GRAND RAPIDS — Kent County Commissioners may buy nearly 74 acres of parkland this week as part of their continuing effort to build a 700-acre regional park in LowellTownship

    The acres, south of

    36th Street

between Alden Nash and Segwum avenues, would be added to the 235 acres the county already owns there. Kent would pay a total of $783,600 for the acres, which would be purchased in two separate transactions.

The county holds a right of first refusal on another 180 nearby acres.

“We’ve made a commitment over the years to parkland acquisition and I think that is good,” said Roger Morgan, commission vice chairman.

County commissioners will vote on the proposal on Thursday, Aug. 26.
