Last spring Lighthouse Communities cut the ribbon on its first completed housing unit. Fourteen months later the company is celebrating the complete renovation of 12 rental units and four single-family homes supported by $1,000,000 in funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, state and local government agencies and several financial institutions.
Lighthouse Communities Executive Director David Allen will recognize the eight entities that provided financial support at 11:30 a.m. Friday, at Lighthouse Communities located at 1422 Madison Ave, SE.
The organizations include:
- Grand Rapids Community Foundation
- Local Initiatives Support Corporation
- Standard Federal Bank and Standard Federal Bank Community Development Corp.
- Fifth Third Bank
- Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis
- City of Grand Rapids Community Development Department and the Housing Rehabilitation Office
- Michigan Housing Trust Fund
- Michigan State Housing Development Authority
Each organization will be presented with a plaque during a brief ceremony. An open house will follow at three of the completed single family homes being sold, located at 1030 Torren SE, 1826 Madison SE and 1918 Lafayette SE, hosted by area neighborhood organizations.
Lighthouse Communities is a nonprofit housing corporation dedicated to working with the city and local partner community-based organizations to revitalize neighborhoods through the rehabilitation of homes within them.
Through the efforts of Lighthouse Communities and several partners — including Baxter Neighborhood Association, Midtown Neighborhood Association, Restorers, Oakdale Neighbors, Abundant Life Ministries and South East Community Association — the organization says it is achieving a goal of preparing the home for the homeowner, the homeowner for the home and the community for the homeowner and the home.
