Major Warehouse Ready In April

GRAND RAPIDS — Supply Chain Solutions Inc. is to be the main tenant of a new 200,000-square-foot warehouse that Wolverine Building is scheduled to complete in April in Byron Township.

Wolverine announced recently it had been awarded the construction contract by Robert Grooters Development Co.

According to Wolverine, the facility is to be constructed in the new Byron Commerce Industrial Park on Byron Commerce Drive, west off U.S. 131. Groundbreaking occurred Nov. 26.

The construction firm — which has been noted locally for innovatively phased construction of new building shells around existing structures so as not to interrupt production — says it has carefully planned the project for a quick construction timetable no matter how harsh the weather may be this winter.

Supply Chain Solutions Inc. is a Moline-based firm expanding into the Grand Rapids area.

The firm describes itself as operating in four divisions: inbound logistics solutions, outbound logistic solutions, technology solutions, and supply chain management and consulting

The firm says it implements end-to-end supply chain performance improvements while saving its clients’ money.

Currently the company says it is partnering with Steelcase Inc., John Deere, Whirlpool and PolyOne on supply chain strategies that it claims deliver consistent, measurable savings to the bottom line.

The company principals are Jim Ward and Les Brand, president and CEO respectively.

Supply Chain’s expansion in Byron Township also is done in partnership with Grooters and, according to Grooters, is the first stage in the development of a multi-client inventory management center.

The project ultimately will involve structures with 362,500 square feet of space.
