Manufacturer’s RFID Seminar Set

GRAND RAPIDS — Two Ann Arbor technology firms report that registration is open for a seminar they are sponsoring — “RFID for Manufacturing: From Vision to Reality” — Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

The sponsors of the seminar, to run to , are Cimulus Software Development and Lowry Computer Products, of Ann Arbor

The seminar also is to include speakers from Symbol Technologies and Zebra Corp., radio frequency identification (RFID) technology companies.

Also participating will be speakers from Northern Apex, and Precisia, specialists in making high-speed, low-cost tags.

According to the seminar sponsors, RFID technology — long a staple in high-end tracking applications — is emerging as the natural extension technology to bar code identifier systems.

Cimulus and Lowry report that programs launched by Wal-Mart, Gillette, the Department of Defense and others demonstrate the high level of interest in RFID in the retail and supply chain sectors.

The two firms, however, believe the technology offers substantial opportunities for manufacturers as well.

This seminar will introduce basic RFID and data collection concepts for company executives and information technology professionals.

The seminar aims to help manufacturers grasp how RFID might be used to improve their processes. Key hardware vendors will also be presenting their latest products, directions and announcements.
