National City Nets SBA Honors

LANSING — National City Bank last week was accorded the sixth annual Lender of the Year Award from the Michigan District of the Small Business Administration.

According to the SBA, National City approved 354 SBA guaranty loans with $27.2 million in fiscal year 2003.

The SBA said the bank made more SBA loans in 2003 than any lender ever has done in Michigan and, furthermore, that the institution broke its own lending record set the previous year.

The SBA also accorded National City its New Markets and Express Lender of the Year awards.

Richard Temkin, SBA’s Michigan District director, said that last year “SBA guaranteed a record number of loans for the Michigan small business community.

“Clearly, we could not have done this,” he added, “without the hard work and support of Michigan’s lending community.”

He said that although it was difficult to select a winner, “National City Bank turned in an exceptional performance in all areas, and it has also done an excellent job of marketing our programs throughout the state.”

All told, the SBA guaranteed 1,717 loans worth more than $377.6 million in 366 cities and 78 counties.

Other SBA winners and their awards were:

    • Bank One — 504 Lender Of The Year
    • Fifth Third — LowDoc Lender of the Year
    • Capital One, FSB — Business Development Lender of the Year
    • Republic Bank — PLP Lender of the Year.
