ALLEGAN — Perrigo Co. plans to invest $10.5 million to expand its facilities at its Allegan headquarters, a strategic move that will generate 400 jobs over the next five years, add operations and training space and set the stage for the company’s future growth.
Perrigo develops, manufactures and distributes over-the-counter prescription pharmaceuticals, nutritional products, active pharmaceutical ingredients and consumer products. It’s the world’s largest manufacturer of OTC pharmaceutical products for the store brand market.
“In these tough economic times, Perrigo continues to help the consumer by providing quality, affordable health care products,” said Joseph C. Papa, Perrigo’s president, chairman and CEO. “We see many new opportunities to further reduce consumer health care costs. Many brand products’ exclusivity rights will expire soon, and this will allow us to develop additional high-quality, store-brand versions at an affordable price.”

The expansion is supported by state tax credits valued at $8.4 million over the next 12 years. In addition to the state incentive, the city of
