GRAND RAPIDS — Entela Inc. last week named 12 West Michigan firms to which it recently granted ISO quality standard registration certificates.
Entela’s Quality System Registration Division is a locally headquartered accredited third-party quality system registrar.
The area firms were among 79 companies which Entela certified as being compliant with ISO 9000 quality standards, or QS 9000 automotive requirements or its tooling and equipment (TE) supplement, or ISO 14000 environmental management standards, or a combination of those standards.
The area firms and their certifications are:
Forward Metal Craft Inc., Grand Rapids, QS 9000/ISO 9002
Ventura Manufacturing, Zeeland, QS 9000/ISO 9002
Northwest Tool & Die, Walker, TE Supplement/ QS 9000/ISO 9001

In the same announcement the division also indicated that in the wake of audits, it has reissued ISO 9001 certification for two other companies: Progressive Technologies Inc. and Mangiapane Computer Chronicles, both of Grand Rapids. Those firms’ certification had been scheduled to expire.
Finally, the firm announced that it upgraded the certification of Owens-Corning, Grand Rapids, to QS 9000/ISO 9002.
The certifications were among 37 granted throughout Michigan.
Most of the other certifications were for sites in the upper Midwest and Canada, though the division granted or reissued certification for 11 firms on Taiwan and mainland China. The firm has more than 300 client firms on Taiwan.
According to Entela, certification comes only after a firm undergoes a rigorous audit of its policies and procedures, operations, management and personnel.
Firms earning ISO 9001 registration are those that deal with product design and manufacturing. The ISO 9002 designation denotes manufacturing sites.
Entela advised that the QS 9000 certification embraces all of ISO 9000’s 20 quality elements plus three added requirements specific to the auto industry. The TE supplement contains requirements beyond those of QS 9000 and applies both to ISO 9001 and 9002 companies.
In addition to the certifications named above, the division offeres ISO/TS 16949 and TL 9000 registration and VDA 6.1 services.
The division, headquartered in Grand Rapids, is a subsidiary of Entela Inc., which internationally provides similar quality conformity assessment services, plus failure mode verification testing and materials, product and systems testing and failure analysis.
In addition to its Grand Rapids headquarters, the division also has facilities in Detroit, Boston, Ontario and Taipei.
