Southside Roadwork Begins

HUDSONVILLE — The Michigan Department of Transportation will oversee $3.7 million in improvements on nearly four miles of

    Chicago Drive

from Hudsonville to Jenison in OttawaCounty. Work will begin today and continue through the end of July.

“We realize this is a major route for commuters traveling between Holland, Hudsonville and Grand Rapids,” said Roger Safford, MDOT Grand Region engineer. “We will try to avoid peak-hour lane closures in an effort to reduce the impact on those motorists.”

At least one traffic lane will be maintained in each direction at all times, according to MDOT. To reduce delays, there will be minimal eastbound lane closures during peak morning travel periods and minimal westbound lane closures during peak evening travel periods.

MDOT will also begin improvements April 23 on

    Rivertown Parkway/44th Street

    from

    Potomac Avenue

    to

    Spartan Industrial Drive

in Grandville. Indirect left turns will be constructed at the intersection of

    Ivanrest Avenue

    and

    44th Street

to improve safety and traffic flow. The

    44th Street

median will be widened through the Ivanrest and X-Rite/Macatawa intersections by realigning eastbound lanes. In addition, eastbound

    44th Street

will be widened to three lanes between

    X-Rite Drive

    and

    Spartan Industrial Drive

. Work will continue through mid-August.

During construction, there will be lane closures on

    Rivertown Parkway/44th Street

    and

    Ivanrest Avenue

. There will be intermittent turn restrictions at the

    Ivanrest Avenue

    and

    Spartan Industrial Drive

intersections during construction. There will be no access to

    X-Rite Drive

    and

    Macatawa Drive

    from

    44th Street

during construction; access to those areas will be permitted from

    Ivanrest Avenue

    only.
